Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies.

It’s our Nations Birthday! 

Do you have friends or family members who celebrate a birthday on July 4th? My maternal grandmother (whom we’ve always called Big Mama) has a birthday on July 4th. It’s always been tradition for our family to celebrate her birthday with fireworks, food and fellowship. This year is a special birthday as she turns 80 years old!
